Half a year ago General Motors announced an $11,000 price premium for pickup trucks that could run on both gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG). Gm has started making those vehicles at its plant in Fort Wayne, IN. The option is now available to customers.
With a combined range of 650 miles the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and GMC Sierra 2500 HD pickups each use a 6.0-liter, V8 engine. GM in April set the price premium for the bi-fuel option for the Silverado and Sierra HD and said at the time that the option could pay for itself through lower refueling costs in anywhere between one and two years.
There are 527 publicly accessible CNG stations throughout the US, according to the Department of Energy'sAlternative Fuels Data Center.
